Local Learning Opportunities for Tutors

The Office of Adult Education (OAE) of the City of Philadelphia will hold its annual Tutor Institute on Saturday, October 14, 2017, 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at District 1199C, 100 S. Broad Street, 10th Floor, Philadelphia PA 19110. This free event provides volunteer tutors in the greater Philadelphia area with resources, instruction, and opportunities for networking. This year’s theme is “Cultivating Stronger, Skillful Learning Communities.” Registration information can be found here. For questions, call OAE at 215.686.5250.

Ongoing Online Learning Opportunities for Tutors

World Education offers a variety of free self-paced trainings on topics of interest to tutors of adults. Topics include multiple intelligences, ESL and technology, numeracy, and student assessment. Check out their offerings, but please note that some trainings do require a fee.

ProLiteracy Education Network also offers free self-paced on-line training. The enrollment process takes a few steps. (1) Choose a course to take from their on-line offerings and click “Register to this Course.” (2) Next, click “Confirm” at upper right of screen. (3) On log-on screen, click “If you are a new user Register Now” at bottom of screen. (4) Use DCLC’s name and address as your organization and address (see bottom of this page) as you register for an account. To return to the course at another time, repeat Step 1, but click “Return to Course” and then enter your User Name and Password and click “Log On” to re-enter the course.
