Learning Differences Training, April 29 in Pottstown

The YWCA of the Tri-County Area in Pottstown is hosting a day of training for Adult Literacy Tutors on Saturday, April 29, 2017. Dr. Richard Cooper, founder and director of the Center for Alternative Learning, will be the guest trainer. Dr. Cooper has held several trainings at DCLC, and the  volunteer tutors who attended his trainings have found his strategies and suggestions very helpful.

The morning session (9 am) will focus on “The Characteristics of Learning Differences,” and the afternoon session (1 pm) will cover “Techniques for Teaching Reading and Math.” If you’re attending both sessions, please bring a bag lunch. Ongoing Online Learning Opportunities for Tutors

World Education offers a variety of free self-paced trainings on topics of interest to tutors of adults. Topics include multiple intelligences, ESL and technology, numeracy, and student assessment. Check out their offerings, but please note that some trainings do require a fee.

ProLiteracy Education Network also offers free self-paced on-line training. The enrollment process takes a few steps. (1) Choose a course to take from their on-line offerings and click “Register to this Course.” (2) Next, click “Confirm” at upper right of screen. (3) On log-on screen, click “If you are a new user Register Now” at bottom of screen. (4) Use DCLC’s name and address as your organization and address (see bottom of this page) as you register for an account. To return to the course at another time, repeat Step 1, but click “Return to Course” and then enter your User Name and Password and click “Log On” to re-enter the course.
