Learning with Delco Literacy
Delco Literacy provides free literacy instruction to adults, both online and in person. In-person instruction may be held at our building in Chester or in libraries, churches, or public buildings throughout the county. Adults may learn in a classroom setting, in a small group, or one-on-one with a tutor. All services are free, and individualized attention is emphasized. Twenty years have passed since I was supposed to graduate from high school. I was always embarrassed that I had not completed high school or earned my GED. I wanted to show my three children that with hard work and some support we can achieve almost anything. I wanted to prove to them that dad can talk the talk and walk the walk. With the help of Delco Literacy, I was able to sign up for free in-person GED classes.
I cannot explain how hard it is as an adult to humble yourself and study high school all over again. But at Delco Literacy, you walk into a classroom where there are other people sitting there feeling and thinking the same way as you do. There’s a whole team of people who are truly there to help and support you.
Thanks to Delco Literacy, I am now a GED grad who is on his way to become a Juvenile Probation Officer. I was offered a position with an organization that helps young people in our community make good choices and stay out of trouble. There’s no way any of this would be possible if Delco Literacy wasn’t there.
